Research Handbook

The Research Peptide Handbook

How laboratories evaluate, receive and document research-grade peptides: what to demand from a supplier, how to read a certificate of analysis, how to handle material at the bench, and a factual index of every compound in our catalog with its lot documentation.

Research use only. Everything here is written for laboratory work. Nothing on this page is medical advice, an instruction for use in humans or animals, or a claim about what any compound does in a person. If a creator shared this page with you, a referral code may be applied to your order and that creator is compensated; the content is the same for everyone.

1. Six things to demand from any supplier

Price and packaging tell you nothing. These six do.

01

A certificate for the exact lot

Not a generic COA for the compound — one that names the lot number printed on the vial you received. If the two don't match, the certificate isn't evidence for your material.

02

Purity by HPLC

Reversed-phase HPLC at 220 nm is the standard for peptide purity. The report should show the chromatogram or at least the method, the column conditions and the integrated purity percentage.

03

Identity by mass spectrometry

Purity tells you how much of the sample is one thing; it doesn't tell you what that thing is. A mass-spec result with the observed mass against the theoretical molecular weight is what confirms identity.

04

An independent, accredited laboratory

Third-party testing by a lab accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 means the method and the reporting were audited by someone other than the seller.

05

Traceability on the vial

Lot number, compound name and net content on the label, matching the certificate and the order documentation. Anything hand-written or missing is a red flag.

06

Written policies

Shipping, refunds, and research-use terms published where you can read them before you order — and a real contact channel behind them.

How we do it: Quality & testing · every published certificate: COA library.

2. How to read a certificate of analysis

FieldWhat to look for
Compound / sequenceThe material name and, for peptides, the amino-acid sequence the lot was tested against.
Lot numberThe batch identifier. Must match the vial label.
Test dateWhen the analysis was run — recent relative to the ship date.
MethodFor purity: RP-HPLC with wavelength (typically 220 nm), column and gradient. For identity: LC-MS or MALDI.
Purity (%)The integrated area of the main peak. Research suppliers typically specify ≥ 99% for single peptides; blends report per component or as a combined result.
Observed vs. theoretical massThe mass-spec identity check. The observed value should sit within the instrument's tolerance of the calculated molecular weight.
AppearanceLyophilized peptides are typically a white to off-white powder; reconstitution solutions are clear liquids.
Laboratory and signatureWho ran the test, their accreditation, and an authorizing signature or report ID you can verify.

3. Receiving, storage and handling at the bench

Lyophilized material

Store sealed at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Allow vials to reach room temperature before opening so condensation doesn't form on the powder.

Reconstituted solutions

Refrigerate at 2–8 °C and follow the stability window your laboratory protocol specifies. Label the vial with the date, diluent and concentration.

Diluent

Use a sterile diluent appropriate to your protocol; our laboratory supply is a sterile reconstitution solution. Add diluent slowly down the vial wall and swirl gently — don't shake — to avoid foaming and shear.

Documentation

File the certificate of analysis with the lot number, the receiving date and the storage conditions. A traceable chain from order to bench is what auditors and reviewers ask for.

Technique

Aseptic technique, single-use consumables, and a clean surface. Treat every vial as a laboratory reagent.

4. Compound index

Every catalog item with its identifiers and, where published, the certificate for the current lot. Category descriptions describe the research model the material is characterized for — not an effect in any organism.
